Merry Christmas

Hello Everyone,

I hope all of you had a great Christmas! I spent mine with all my family, I couldn't have asked for a better week.

I was driving around on christmas day for a bit, and it was so bizarre to see everything shut down. The materialistic machine that is the US stopped for a day, maybe not all for the right reasons, but in the historical meaning of the holiday, they all stopped to honor the new born king - Jesus Christ. Obviously over the years christmas has progressively meant less about Jesus(and love, and anything else that is good) and more about us. But it was kind of nice to see everyone knowingly or unknowingly honoring Christ on that day.

Speaking of Materialism, I am not pretending I am invincible to this problem. I think it hits even harder around this time of year, sadly. I find myself stuck thinking about material gains which are good in of themselves, but then realize I haven't sat down to read my Bible that day or have a significant time of prayer. All that mental power wasted on things that are in the end temporary, without first getting my head and heart right before God. I feel ashamed, ask for forgiveness and remedy it immediately. So, I encourage you as I encourage myself to check yourself in this regard as often as needed. Is knowing God and making him known really my first priority today?

Love Ya'll,
David

I needed your opinion on this...I came across this Bible called "The Bible in 90 Days."

It's essentially a Bible that's set up in a way that can be read in 90 days. I've seen it being promoted a lot for first time readers and people who have never gone through the whole thing and in my opinion that's a cop out. It seems a little gimmicky to me. Sure it would be very fulfilling to read the whole bible, but to read 12 pages a day (as the program sets it) seems like the reader is in a race to prove "Hey I've read the whole bible, and I read it fast!"

There's so much teaching and learning to be done through the bible that in mind 90 days is like these new weightloss programs that pop up everyday simply as a way to make money.

I don't think it's completely a fluke. I think a 90 day bible would be beneficial to someone who is very well versed in the bible and wants to refresh their memory, but otherwise I think people should really take their time and progress through each verse only as they understand enough to continue.

Reading the bible is definitely not a race to brag to everyone that they have read the whole bible. Reading the bible is a chance to really understand, get to know, and build your relationship with God.

Anyways, I saw this, and in in my opinion it just scares me to see something gimmicky like this infringing on the bible. While I'm open to new methods of bringing people to God, I worry that this will make people think they know God without actually knowing God.

Well I really wanted to get your thoughts on this. Let me know thanks.

And as a response to this blog post: This Christmas was the most fulfilling Christmas I can remember. I didn't get a lot of material gifts... I didn't ask for it. But I woke up feeling fulfilled in Christ. I actually consciously thought of the day as Christ's birthday.

Also I read this thing in a nightly prayer book that got me thinking...when people pray we often pray for "this" and "that" instead of praying for God to keep us right in the center of His mysterious plans. God is never late, He is never early, He is always on time. That's not to say I don't pray for other things in life anymore, I do, but I understand that God has good plans for me and I'm excited to be a part of those plans and I pray that I can stay on that path.

As always thanks,
Jason
